Work with managed files

Use the Assets tool to upload managed files that are used in the selected store.

Managed files

Any file that is uploaded to WebSphere Commerce using the Assets tool in the Management Center becomes a managed file. For example, product images and marketing content.

Attachments can contain one or more files of any of the following formats:

  • Document (.doc, .pdf, .ps, .text, .txt)

  • Presentation (.ppt)

  • Spreadsheet (.xls)

  • Archive (.gtar, .gz, .jar, .tar, .zip)

  • Media (.avi, .mov, .mpeg, .mpg, .qt, .ra, .swf, .wav)

  • Graphics (.gif, .jpeg, .jpg, .png)

The maximum file size for a file contained within an attachment is 10 MB.

Multiple managed files can be created from a compressed file.

Managed directories

The directories in which managed files are stored. There is no limitation on the number of managed directories that you can use. Managed directories can contain subdirectories. IBM recommends that you organize the managed directories to address the business requirements. For example, create directories such as Documents and Images to organize the files by usage.
