Work with managed files
Use the Assets tool to upload managed files that are used in the selected store.
- Managed files
- Any file that is uploaded to WebSphere Commerce using the Assets tool in the Management Center becomes a managed file. For example, product images and marketing content.
Attachments can contain one or more files of any of the following formats:
- Document (.doc, .pdf, .ps, .text, .txt)
- Presentation (.ppt)
- Spreadsheet (.xls)
- Archive (.gtar, .gz, .jar, .tar, .zip)
- Media (.avi, .mov, .mpeg, .mpg, .qt, .ra, .swf, .wav)
- Graphics (.gif, .jpeg, .jpg, .png)
The maximum file size for a file contained within an attachment is 10 MB.
Multiple managed files can be created from a compressed file.
- Managed directories
- The directories in which managed files are stored. There is no limitation on the number of managed directories that you can use. Managed directories can contain subdirectories. IBM recommends that you organize the managed directories to address the business requirements. For example, create directories such as Documents and Images to organize the files by usage.
- Create managed files
You can create managed files in the Assets tool.
- Replace the content of managed files
You can replace the content of an existing managed file; you cannot change the name of the file.
- Delete managed files
You might want to delete a managed file from the WebSphere Commerce Server if you no longer have any use for that file. You cannot delete a managed file if it has already been assigned to any business objects.
- Create managed directories
You can create managed directories in the Assets tool to address the business requirements. For example, you can create directories such as Documents and Images to organize the files by usage.
- Delete managed directories
You might want to delete a managed directory from the WebSphere Commerce Server if you no longer have any use for that directory. You cannot delete a directory if it contains any files.
- List managed file details
You can see all of the managed directories and managed files that are available to use within attachments and view the details for each.
- Preview managed files and URLs
You can preview the contents of managed files or URLs. When you preview a managed file or URL, a separate browser window opens to display the contents of the selected file or URL. For example, if you preview an image file, a browser window opens to display the image contained in that file.
