Create managed files

You can create managed files in the Assets tool.

You can now create multiple managed files from a compressed file. A managed file is created for each of the files in the compressed file.

Procedure

  1. Open the Assets tool.

  2. From the explorer view filter, select Files, and navigate to the directory in which to create the managed files in.

  3. Create managed files.

    Option Description
To create a new managed file

    1. Use one of the following methods to create a new managed file:

      • Right-click the directory; then select New File.

      • From the File menu, select New > File.

      • From the list beside the Create new button, select File.

      The properties view displays.

    2. Click beside the File field to browse the local file system for the file and upload it to the WebSphere Commerce Server. You can select a file with any of the following formats:

      • Document (.doc, .pdf, .ps, .text, .txt)

      • Presentation (.ppt)

      • Spreadsheet (.xls)

      • Archive (.gtar, .gz, .jar, .tar, .zip)

Archives can only contain supported file types. For example, you cannot upload an archive that contains an .exe file.

      • Media (.avi, .mov, .mpeg, .mpg, .qt, .ra, .swf, .wav)

      • Graphics (.gif, .jpeg, .jpg, .png)

The Name, Size, and Path fields are populated with the information for the selected file.

Tip: You can change the Name field to specify a different file name.

    3. Optional: To change the path of the managed file to use a different parent directory, click to open the utilities view. Drag the directory that to use as the parent directory from the utility view to the Path list in the properties view.

    4. Click Save and Close, or click Close.

If you are working in an extended site store and the directory that to create a managed file in belongs to an asset store, you cannot create a managed file under this directory.

The managed file is uploaded to the WebSphere Commerce Server.

To create multiple managed files from a compressed file

    1. Right-click the directory, and select Create files from compressed file. Alternately, you can click the Create files from compressed file icon in the toolbar.

    2. Browse the local file system for a .zip file.

The directory is automatically reloaded to show the uploaded files and subdirectories from the compressed file. The managed files and directories are uploaded to the WebSphere Commerce Server.
