Site Creation Overview

  1. IWWCM Items

IWWCM uses a set of items to build a site and to build the web pages within the site. The order in which these items are created and managed is up to you. However, all these items, and the relationships between them, must exist before a web page can be viewed and a site generated.

  2. The Relationships between Items

IWWCM item types are not independent of each other. The ways that item types relate to each other determine how various features and functions of an IWWCM Web Site will work.

  3. Content and Components

One of the major benefits of IWWCM technology is the separation of the content of a web page from the design of a web page.

  4. How a Web Page is Rendered

The IWWCM application uses Presentation Templates to combine and display components from different items.

  5. Linking the Web Pages in a Site

In traditional web sites, the Site Framework is an artificial concept based on the links between the pages of a site. In an IWWCM environment, the Site Framework is defined first, and the links between the pages are generated automatically.

  6. VControl

IBM Workplace IWWCM has a set of VControl features that can be used to store a history of item versions. This can be useful for various auditing purposes. Saved versions can quickly be restored when required.

  7. Workflows and Security

Access to IWWCM Items in the Authoring Environment, and items rendered in the "live" web site, can be restricted to different users. The verification and eventual approval of IWWCM items are controlled using Workflows.
