Content and Components

One of the major benefits of IWWCM technology is the separation of the content of a web page from the design of a web page.

This means:

  • The content of a site can be updated without affecting the design of a web page, and
  • The design of a web page can be changed without affecting the content.

The content of a site is not just the text. Content can include:

  • Static elements such as text, images and HTML, or
  • Dynamic elements such as Navigators and Menus.

Content Storage

Content is not just stored in Content items. Content can be created in many places and items within an IWWCM environment:

Presentation Templates and Content

The IWWCM application uses Presentation Templates to display content. A single Presentation Template can be used more than once in a Site. If the Presentation Template references Components from Site Areas or Content items, the content of the Presentation Template can change depending on the current Site Area or Content.

Content can also be directly entered in Presentation Templates. E.g., Text can be entered directly into a Presentation Template and will always be displayed, no matter what the current Site Area or Content is.
