Work with attributes
The Product Manager is responsible for determining the best way to display, price, and sell products in the online store, including assigning or changing product attributes.
- Add defining attributes
Defining attributes are properties of SKUs in an online store, such as color or size. Attribute values are the property of an attribute such as a specific color (blue or yellow) or size (medium).
- Add a defining attribute value
You can add a defining attribute value to a product. Defining attribute values are used to resolve SKUs. An example of defining attribute values are S, M, L, and XL for a defining attribute of size. Each size of a product would have a different SKU.
- Add descriptive attributes
You might want to add a descriptive attribute to a product if you need an additional descriptions to add clarification for customers. For example, some pieces of clothing should only be dry cleaned, never washed. A descriptive attribute can specify the dry clean only condition.
- Changing defining attributes
You might want to change a defining attribute for a product if the manufacturer has come out with a new shade for example, the color red is now called riveting red.
- Changing defining attribute values
You might want to change a defining attribute value if the manufacturer of a product has changed the product attributes or the inventory has depleted a type of product.
- Changing descriptive attributes
You might want to change a descriptive attribute for a product if a certain condition has changed, for example the product is now machine washable, instead of dry clean only.
- Delete defining or descriptive attributes
You might want to delete an attribute for example, if the manufacturer no longer makes the product dry clean only, or the product is now only available in one size fits all.
- Delete attribute values
You might want to delete an attribute for example, if the manufacturer no longer makes the product in a certain color, or the product is no longer dry clean only.
- List defining or descriptive attributes
If you are updating information for a product, you can view the attributes for that product in the product properties view, and make informed changes.
- Find attribute dictionary catalog entry attributes
If the attribute dictionary has been loaded into WebSphere Commerce, you can view the attribute dictionary attributes assigned to any catalog entry.
