Overview: Migrating Management Center

WebSphere Commerce v7 and WebSphere Commerce v7 feature packs deliver new Management Center function and fixes to enhance the Management Center environment. Review this information to understand the process of migrating the existing customized Management Center environment to the v7 level or to a v7 feature pack.

The ability to customize the Management Center is supported with the installation of WebSphere Commerce Developer v7.0 or WebSphere Commerce v7 feature packs. Using the migration tool provided, you can migrate the customized Management Center files to the v7 level and to WebSphere Commerce v7 feature packs levels.

To migrate from Management Center v6.0 Feature Pack x to a Management Center v7.0 Feature Pack y, first migrate to Management Center v7.0, then migrate to the Management Center v7.0 Feature Pack y.

Determine if migrate

If you enabled the Management Center feature on previous version and if you implemented any customization in the previous Feature Pack, migrate the Management Center. Example of customizations that require you to migrate are:

Supported Management Center migration paths

  v7 v7 Feature Pack 1 v7 Feature Pack 2
Version 6 Feature Pack 3.0.1 or v6 Feature Pack 4 supported
v7   supported supported
v7 Feature Pack 1     supported
v7 Feature Pack 2

To migrate from Management Center v6.0 Feature Pack version to a Management Center v7.0 Feature Pack version, first migrate to Management Center v7.0, then migrate to the Management Center v7.0 Feature Pack version.

The following are the high level migration steps for the supported migration paths:

To migrate from Management Center v6.0 Feature Pack version to a Management Center v7.0 Feature Pack version, first migrate to Management Center v7.0, then migrate to the Management Center v7.0 Feature Pack version.

If you have an existing Management Center installation at the v6.0 level and have made customizations, you should understand the migration process if you decide to upgrade the Management Center to the v7 level. Review the overview steps:

  1. Identify changes between Management Center v6 Feature Pack x and v7. A comparison utility generates a comparison report outlining the changes you made to the Management Center v6.0 Feature Pack version Web module.

  2. Manually merge the customized files to v7. You also need to rebuild the LOBTools project and test the updated project within the development environment.

  3. Package the Management Center files for deployment.

  4. In the WebSphere Commerce production environment, install v7, and migrate the Commerce instance from v6 to v7.

  5. Deploy the development environment changes into the production environment:

    1. Deploy the WAR file from step 3.

    2. Deploy the store assets.

  1. Identify changes between Management Center v7 Feature Pack x and v7 Feature Pack y. A comparison utility generates a comparison report outlining the changes you made to the Management Center v7.0 Web module.

  2. In the WebSphere Commerce Developer v7 environment, install Feature Pack 1

  3. In the WebSphere Commerce Developer v7 environment, enable the Management Center feature.

  4. Manually merge the customized files to v7 Feature pack 1.

  5. Rebuild the LOBTools project and test the updated project within the development environment.

  6. Package the Management Center files for deployment.

  7. In the WebSphere Commerce production environment, install v7 Feature pack 1 and enable the management-center feature.

  8. Deploy the development environment changes into the production environment:

    2. Deploy the store assets.
Refer to Deploy the customized code for a lesson in deploying custom code.

Feature Pack 2

If you have an existing Management Center installation at the v7.0 or v7.0 Feature Pack 1 level and have made customizations, you should understand the migration process if you decide to upgrade the Management Center to the v7 Feature Pack 2 level. Review the overview steps:

  1. Identify customizations on Management Center v7 Feature Pack x. A comparison utility generates a comparison report outlining the changes you made to the Management Center v7 Feature Pack x Web module.

  2. In the WebSphere Commerce Developer v7 environment, install Feature Pack 2

  3. In the WebSphere Commerce Developer v7 environment, enable the Management Center feature.

  4. Manually merge the customized files to v7 Feature pack 2.

To enhance the performance of Management Center, Feature Pack 2 removes some OpenLaszlo files (*.lzx) and delivers some definition files (*.def) instead. In Step 3 the enablement script converts some of the customized OpenLaszlo files to definition files. In this step, manually merge the customizations into the definition files with the help of the compare tool.

  5. Rebuild the LOBTools project and test the updated project within the development environment.

  6. Package the Management Center files for deployment.

  7. In the WebSphere Commerce production environment, install v7 Feature Pack 2 and enable the management-center feature.

  8. Deploy the development environment changes into the production environment:

    1. Deploy the WAR file from step 6.

    2. Deploy the store assets.
Refer to Deploy the customized code for a lesson in deploying custom code.
