Troubleshoot: WebSphere Commerce common features
The WebSphere Commerce feature packs contain features; some of these features might be common, or exist, in two or more feature packs. Review this information to understand what happens when you have one of these features installed.
Problem
You have two or more WebSphere Commerce feature packs installed. Each of these WebSphere Commerce feature packs might contain a feature that is common to all or some of the installed feature packs. As an example, the component-services feature is included in both Feature Pack 2 and Feature Pack 3. The component-services feature is a common feature.
Solution
WebSphere Commerce feature packs contain features that are common to one or more feature packs. When working with these common features, consider the following:
- Feature pack install scenario. When two or more feature packs are installed on a system, any common feature is always at the higher feature pack level, regardless of the order that the feature packs are installed. The common feature is always at the higher feature pack level regardless if the feature has been enabled or not.
- Feature enablement scenario. A feature has been enabled. A newer feature pack is installed which contains the same feature as that which has already been enabled. To take advantage of this newer common feature, you must enable the common feature again.
- Feature disablement scenario. A common feature is at the level of the highest feature pack installed on the system. If a feature pack is uninstalled from the system, the common feature will remain at the highest feature pack level. If disable the feature after the feature pack is uninstalled from the system, reinstall the corresponding feature pack before you can disable the feature.
- Feature pack uninstall scenario. The uninstall of a feature pack has two possibilities:
- A common feature is at the level of the highest feature pack installed on the system. If one of several feature packs is uninstalled from the system, the common feature will remain at the highest feature pack level since there are installed feature packs that still require the use of this common feature.
- A common feature is at the level of the highest feature pack installed on the system. If the only remaining feature pack is uninstalled from the system, the common feature will be removed since there are no installed feature packs that require the use of this common feature.
