User roles
Consider the types of portal users who will use the Collaboration Center and the tasks that they will be expected to perform. The following table summarizes the key roles and responsibilities that might help you plan your roll out of the Collaboration Center. Define user roles ahead of time. Doing so will inform your decisions about the permissions you grant to portal users and groups for access to portal resources.
The table below suggests some task examples for illustrative purposes only, with the caveat that many user types and roles overlap. For example, within your enterprise, you might not need to distinguish portal designer and page designers. Furthermore, designers in general will most likely share tasks with portlet developers. Similarly, in some functional contexts, portal administrators will also serve as system administrators and vice versa. Be aware of how user responsibilities and tasks will change with the life cycle of the portal. Roles during the initial roll out of a pilot project will change as the portal deployment reaches full implementation to wide audiences and matures into maintenance mode.
For more information on managing portal users and groups, refer to the Information Center topics that address administering your portal.
