Features
The Collaboration Center comprises the following portlets, which offer integrated features to improve user productivity:
- People Finder portlet
- Sametime portlets
- My Lotus Team Workplaces (QuickPlace) portlet
- Lotus Web Conferencing (Sametime) portlet
- Collaboration Center sample page
People Finder portlet
The People Finder portlet is the primary application of Collaboration Center because it integrates an online directory with people awareness, instant messaging, e-meetings, and team workplaces. People in an organization can find and interact with each other quickly using this portlet. Employees can use either Quick Search or Advanced Search to find colleagues and related information. Once found, a person is visible to other users as a person link that indicates online presence. Clicking a person link displays a menu of instant messaging and other options:
- Start Chat... (if Lotus Sametime is enabled with WebSphere Portal)
- Send Email...
- Show Profile (if Lotus Discovery Server is enabled with WebSphere Portal)
- Find Documents Authored By (if Lotus Discovery Server is enabled with WebSphere Portal)
- Add to Contact List... (if Lotus Sametime is enabled with WebSphere Portal)
- Show Person Record
- Show in Organization View (appears on people links in the People Finder only.)
For example, when a user selects Show Person Record, he or she sees the person's business card information followed by other information mapped from the directory source, for example, Contact Information, Current Job, and Background. The Organization View shows the person's place in the organizational context. Displaying the Organization View for a person, users can see the person's relationship to others in the organizational hierarchy, namely, the person's direct reports and managers. All of these People Finder features can be customized.
The fields of the People Finder portlet and the content and layout of the portlet's views are derived from the directory that is set up for the portlet. Using the portlet's configuration mode, administrators or designers specify the fields that they want to appear in the People Finder portlet. The fields that are available for selection in configuration mode are the ones specified in the active directory connection. The portlet fields then become available for selection in the remaining portlet configuration tasks. In these subsequent tasks, the administrator or designer specifies the content and format of the People Finder views: Quick Search and Search Results, Advanced Search and Search Results, Person Record, Business Card, and Organization View.
Administrators install, configure, and deploy the People Finder portlet in the portal as they do other portlets. The People Finder portlet uses the WebSphere Member Manager of the portal to provide its user directory.
My Lotus Team Workplaces (QuickPlace) portlet
The My Lotus Team Workplaces provides a view of all the team workplaces that a user belongs to, including indicators of the workplaces that the user manages. From the basic list of workplaces, the user can search for other workplaces, display the details of the workplace, create a new workplace, and interact with other people in the workplace. Users with Edit permission to this portlet can edit the display properties to set their preferences. Administrators install, configure, and deploy the My Team Workplaces portlet in the portal as they do other portlets.
Lotus Web Conferencing (Sametime) portlet
The Lotus Web Conferencing portlet provides a view of all the Web Conferences (e-meetings) by status type, including meetings that a user moderates. From the basic list of meetings (My Meetings), the user can search for listed and unlisted meetings, manage meeting details, attend a meeting, schedule a meeting, and interact with people in the meeting. Users with Edit permission to this portlet can edit the display properties to set their preferences. Administrators install, configure, and deploy the Web Conferencing portlet in the portal as they do other portlets.
Sametime portlets
The Sametime Contact List portlet displays a list that the user has compiled of people with whom the user wants to chat online or include in online meetings. The Sametime Who Is Here portlet displays a list of people in the page or virtual page with whom the user is able to chat.
