Before installing WebSphere Application Server (WAS) V6.0 for OS/400, complete these prerequisite tasks:

1. Determine if WAS V6.0 for OS/400 is already installed on your server.

   1. Enter the Display Software Resources (DSPSFWRSC) command on a CL command line.

   2. Look for an entry with the product Resource ID 5733W60.

      • If you do not find the product Resources ID, then this product has not been installed on your iSeries server.

      • If a previous version of WAS is installed on your server, read the coexistence instructions before you install V6.0 of WAS.

   3. If you plan to migrate from the previous version to this version, be sure to read Migration.

2. Print the Checklist: WAS installation to use during the installation process.

3. Select the components to install
   Determine which components you require.

4. Determine time requirements for installation
   Plan to set aside enough time for each step of the process. Depending on your server specifications, the process may take more or less time than the estimates provided in this documentation.

   Note: The installation process might require at least one initial program load (IPL or restart) of the server, if you need to install an OS/400 cumulative PTF package.

5. Read the product Release Notes for important information about the product. See the WAS documentation page for links to the Release Notes.

6. Verify iSeries prerequisites
   Verify that the iSeries prerequisites are satisfied. Install prerequisite software if necessary.

   Note: If you are running an iSeries server that does not meet the minimum recommended hardware requirements for WAS, you can still install and run the product. However, the WAS environment might run slowly, and your applications might not run successfully.

7. Obtain WAS V6.0 for OS/400
   Before you install WAS V6.0 for OS/400, you need to obtain the WAS V6 product and current fixes. It can take up to two weeks to receive the product.
