Verify iSeries prerequisites
Before you install WebSphere Application Server, verify that your hardware and software meet the minimum requirements.
iSeries hardware requirements
Use the IBM eServer Workload Estimator (http://www-912.ibm.com/wle/EstimatorServlet) 
for help with estimating all system configurations.
Systems that do not meet the recommended minimums may be used in environments that support a limited number of users and where longer server initialization times are acceptable.
Minimum 1200 MB free disk space for installation
- If your applications consist only of servlets and JavaServer(TM) Pages (JSP) files, it is recommended that your server meet these minimum requirements:
- Recommended minimum server models:
- iSeries Model 270 with processor feature 2252
- iSeries Model 820 with processor feature 2395
- For simple applications using JSP and servlets, the minimum recommended processor CPW is 300.
- 768 MB of memory for your WebSphere Application Server environment (recommended minimum). This memory requirement is in addition to memory required for any other applications running on your iSeries server.
Notes:
- These requirements are based on a single WebSphere Application Server profile. Additional profiles running concurrently require additional resources.
- These requirements represent the recommended minimum requirements. Deployments that must support many users or require shorter response times might require additional resources.
- If your applications contain enterprise beans, it is recommended that your server meet these minimum requirements:
- Recommended minimum server models:
- AS/400e server 170 with processor feature 2385 or
- AS/400e server 720 with processor feature 2062 or
- iSeries Model 270 with processor feature 2252 or
- iSeries Model 800 with processor feature 2464 or
- iSeries Model 820 with one of these processor features 2395, 2396, 2427, 2458 or
- iSeries Models 520, 570, 810, 825, 830, 840, 870, 890
- For simple applications using enterprise beans, the minimum recommended processor CPW is 450.
- 2 MB Level 2 cache.
- 1 GB of memory for your WebSphere Application Server environment (recommended minimum). This memory requirement is in addition to memory required for any other applications running on your iSeries server.

iSeries required software
- OS/400 Version 5 Release 2 (V5R2), i5/OS Version 5 Release 3 (V5R3), or i5/OS Version 5 Release 4 (V5R4)
The iSeries server must be in an unrestricted state, and your user profile must have *ALLOBJ and *SECADM special authorities.
- IBM Developer Kit for Java(TM) (5722-JV1), Version 1.4 (option 6).
- If you install on OS/400 V5R2, Java group PTF SF99169 level 19 or higher is required.
- If you install on OS/400 V5R3, Java group PTF SF99269 level 4 or higher is required.
- OS/400 Qshell (5722-SS1 option 30)
Required to run installation scripts and to use other scripts in WebSphere Application Server.
- OS/400 Host Servers (5722-SS1 option 12)
Required for installation.
- Extended Base Directory Support (5722-SS1 option 3)
Required by the application server runtime if you run i5/OS V5R4.
- Cryptographic Access Provider 128-bit for iSeries (5722-AC3)
Required by the application server runtime if you run i5/OS V5R3 or a previous operating system version.

iSeries optional software
- HTTP server
Not required for installation, but recommended for production environments that use servlets and JSP files. If you plan to deploy only enterprise beans, you do not need an HTTP server instance. WebSphere Application Server supports these HTTP server products:
- IBM HTTP Server (powered by Apache) (5722-DG1)
- Lotus Domino for AS/400 R5 (5769-LNT)
- Lotus Domino for iSeries 6.0 (5733-LD6)
- Lotus Domino for iSeries 6.5 (5733-L65)
- OS/400 Digital Certificate Manager (5722-SS1 option 34)
Not required for installation, but required if you plan to use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol.
- DB2(R) Query Manager and SQL Development Kit for iSeries (5722-ST1)
Can be helpful in developing client applications.
