Migration

Migration tasks and tools allow you to transfer your existing configuration settings and existing applications to the new version of the product.

The WebSphere(R) Application Server - Express product is the entry point for a single machine. The "base" WebSphere Application Server product differs from the WebSphere Application Server - Express product in licensing and tooling support. Both support J2EE 1.4.

Product migration functions are provided by the migration tools in WebSphere Application Server, Version 6.0. This table shows the supported migration paths:

This document provides detailed step-by-step instructions to successfully migrate your WebSphere Application Server Version 4.0.x, Version 5.0.x, and Version 5.1.x instances to WebSphere Application Server - Express, WebSphere Application Server, or WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment Version 6.0. The following topics take you through the migration process. IBM recommends that you read each topic in the order listed, and that you read through the migration documentation at least once before you start the migration process.

WebSphere Application Server Version 6.0 can coexist with all previous versions of WebSphere Application Server. Depending on the previous version of WebSphere Application Server, there may be port conflicts which need to be resolved. See Coexistence with previous versions of WebSphere Application Server for more information.
