Changing a category
You can change the information for a category, including name, description, images, and parent category.
Procedure
- Open the WebSphere Commerce Accelerator.
- Open the Sales Catalogs page: Select Sales Catalogs.
- Click Merchandise > Sales Catalogs
- Click Sales Catalogs > Sales Catalogs
- From the list of available sales catalogs, select a catalog in which to add a category and click Design.
- From the Target Catalog page, the category tree for the sales catalog displays. Highlight the category to be updated and click Change Category.
- The Change Category page displays. Change any of the following information as needed:
- In the Code field, type the updated category code. For example, change "SC1_patio" to "SC1a_patio".
- Check Display to customers (all languages) to display the category in all supported languages for the store.
- In the Language list, select the language for the category.
- In the Name field, type the updated name of the category, For example, change "Patio" to "Patio Furniture".
- In the Short description field, type the updated brief description of the category. For example, change "Patio furniture" to "Clearance patio furniture".
- In the Long description field, type the updated longer description of the category, if applicable. For example, change "End of the season clearance patio furniture" to "A collection of end of the season clearance patio furniture".
- In the Thumbnail image file and location field, type the updated thumbnail size image path and name for the category:
- /images/patio_thumb.gif to /images/patioFurniture_thumb.gif
- \images\patio_thumb.gif to \images\patioFurniture_thumb.gif
- \images\patio_thumb.gif to \images\patioFurniture_thumb.gif
- In the Full size image file and location field, type the updated full size image path and name for the category:
- / images/patio_full.gif to /images/patioFurniture_full.gif
- \images\patio_full.gif to \images\patioFurniture_full.gif
- \images\patio_full.gif to \images\patioFurniture_full.gif
- All category image files should be placed in the store's defined image directory. The correct image directory and whether you need an absolute or relative path depends on the store's configuration. Ask a store developer with Site Administrator authority for the correct image directory. For example, the WebSphere Commerce starter store images use a relative path to the default installation path.
- Check Display to customers to display this category only in the selected language.
- Click OK to save the changed category and close the dialog.
