Operate > WebSphere Commerce Accelerator > Product Management tools > Sales catalogs > Design a sales catalog
Add categories
If you are expanding the store inventory or changing the category structure, you might want to add a new category.
Procedure
- Open the WebSphere Commerce Accelerator.
- Open the Sales Catalogs page: Select Sales Catalogs.
- Click Merchandise > Sales Catalogs
- Click Sales Catalogs > Sales Catalogs
- From the list of available sales catalogs, select a catalog in which to add a category and click Design.
- From the Target Catalog page, the category tree for the selected sales catalog displays. Highlight the parent category for the new category and click New Category.
- The Create Category page displays. Add the following information:
- In the Code field, type the category code. For example, "SC1_patio".
- Check Display to customers (all languages) to display the category in all supported languages for the store.
- From the Language list, select the language for the category. If you are a creating a category in a language other than the store's default language, ensure that you have created that same category in the default store language first.
- In the Name field, type the name of the category. For example, "Patio".
- In the Short description field, type a brief description of the category. For example, "Patio furniture".
- In the Long description field, type a longer description of the category, if applicable. For example, "End of the season clearance patio furniture".
- In the Thumbnail image file and location field, type the thumbnail size image path and name for the category. For example:
- /images/patio_thumb.gif
- \images\patio_thumb.gif
- \images\patio_thumb.gif
- In the Full size image file and location field, type the full size image path and name for the category. For example:
- /images/patio_full.gif
- \images\patio_full.gif
- \images\patio_full.gif
- All category image files should be placed in the store's defined image directory. The correct image directory and whether you need an absolute or relative path depends on the store's configuration. Ask a store developer with Site Administrator authority for the correct image directory. For example, the WebSphere Commerce starter store images use a relative path to the default installation path.
- Check Display to customers to display this category only in the selected language.
- Click OK to save the category and close the dialog. Or click Apply to save the category and reset the dialog values. The new category is displayed under the selected parent category.
