Recover from errors

The Management Center message console is located in the status bar, below the main work area.

There are three types of messages:

Status messages

Indicate that an action has been taken and it has completed successfully. Status messages are informational and do not require any further action. For example, you can have a status message indicating that the changes have been successfully saved.

When many changes are made to the same object type, such as creating, updating, or deleting multiple selected products, a single consolidated message is displayed for these changes in the message console. For example, if you select 20 products from the list view to delete at the same time, a single message is displayed in the status area and in the message console to indicate that 20 products were deleted.

Object error messages

Indicate that a problem has occurred with a business object you have been working on during the current Management Center session. Object error messages require the attention and can be fixed by using the Management Center tools. For example, you can have an object error message indicating that you have not provided mandatory information while completing a task (such as not providing a unique product name when creating a new product for the seasonal catalog). You must fix this problem before you can continue. The object error message remains in the message console until you have addressed the problem.

After they are reported, object error messages are not automatically translated when you switch languages. Any new object errors reported will match the new language.

System error messages

Indicate that a problem has occurred in the WebSphere Commerce server. Typically, this is a problem that a business user cannot rectify and requires assistance from a system administrator (for example, a connection problem or a server problem).
You can view, sort, and clear Management Center messages:

Procedure

  1. Open the Management Center.

  2. The status bar at the bottom of the screen displays a message for some actions. Click the message to view a list of all messages in the message console. Click to view a list of all messages in the message console.

  3. From the message console, work with messages:

    Option Description
View Select from this menu to filter the list of messages. You can view all messages, only object error messages, only system messages, or only status messages.
Any column heading Click a column heading to sort the list of messages. The list will be sorted in alphabetic order, if the context is text (such as a description), or numerically for the date column. Click the column heading again to toggle between ascending and descending sorting.
Any error message Double-click an error message within the message console to link directly to the properties page that contains the error. Note that you can only double-click object error (not status or system) messages. Object error messages are the only types of messages that a business user can fix using the Management Center. Once you have rectified a problem and saved the changes, the message is automatically cleared from the list of messages. After they are reported, object errors are not automatically translated when you switch languages. Any new object errors reported will match the new language.
Copy Select this button to copy messages from the message console into another application.

To copy multiple messages at once, press Shift or Crtl and click the messages.

Clear Select this button to remove specific status messages or system messages from the list. Highlight one or more messages in the list and click this button to remove them from the list. Note that you can only clear status or system messages; object error messages are automatically removed from the list after you fix the error.
Close Select this button to close the message console.

  4. Click Close to close the message console.
