Use the attribute dictionary
You can use the attribute dictionary for a fast and efficient way to handle the attributes, while maintaining data retrieval performance.
- Attribute dictionary
An attribute dictionary is a set of common attributes that can be reused by multiple products. The creation of an attribute dictionary reduces maintenance. When a common attribute in the dictionary is changed it will be reflected in the attribute for all products in the catalog. By defining attributes in the dictionary, you can simplify the process of keeping attribute names and values consistent across the site.
- Enable the attribute dictionary
If you are using an external catalog and loading the data into WebSphere Commerce, you can save time by using the attribute dictionary to load in attributes for the products, instead of creating new attributes for each product in the Management Center. The Catalogs tool only displays shared attributes meaning, you cannot update or add new attributes to the dictionary.
- Load the attribute dictionary
To use any attribute dictionary data you have created, first load the data into WebSphere Commerce.
