Install the product and additional software
Overview
You can install WAS using launchpad.
For Windows the installation procedure requires the installer ID to have the following advanced user rights
- Act as part of the operating system
- Log on as a service to install Windows services
For *nix the installer ID can be a non-root user ID. However, some installation procedures might require the installer ID to be the root user. One such example is the GSKit, which is required for using SSL with the IBM HTTP Server. After installing the IBM HTTP Server or the webserver plug-ins as a non-root user, log on as the root user and install GSKit.

- Automatically checks prerequisites
- Looks for a previous WAS Version 6.1 installation to determine whether to let you add features to the product binaries or to install a new set of product binaries
- Looks for a previous V6.1 installation to determine whether to let you upgrade from a trial installation to the real product
- Installs the necessary product binaries
- Prompts you to create one of the following...
- cell profile
- deployment manager profile
- standalone appserver profile
- custom profile
...or prompts you to start the Profile Management tool to create a profile
Procedure
- Plan your installation
- Prepare your operating platform for installation
- Review the roadmap for installing the ND product
- Install the ND product.
- Perform the installation with the wizard
- Install additional features to an existing installation
- Perform a silent installation
- Install IBM HTTP Server. (Optional)
- Install webserver plug-ins for IBM HTTP Server or another supported webserver (Optional).
If you install the IBM HTTP Server or another webserver, then install a binary module for the webserver to enable it to communicate with WAS products.
After installing a webserver plug-in, the Plug-ins installation wizard configures a new element in the appserver configuration called a webserver definition. You can then manage applications for the webserver using the console.

You can install WAS ND V6.x by following this procedure.
