Installation readiness

WebSphere Portal is the framework into which you add Collaboration Center components. You first install and set up your portal, and then add the Collaboration Center components to your portal environment.

After you have installed WebSphere Portal, you are ready to install and deploy the Collaboration Center features, which involves the following tasks:

  1. Install Collaboration Center features using the installation program.

Refer to the Collaboration Center installation instructions for information about the files that are installed and the procedures.

  2. Ensuring that the portal is configured to use WebSphere Member Manager so that the People Finder portlet can access the user directory provided by WebSphere Member Manager.
  3. Deploying five Collaboration Center portlet applications:

    • lwppeoplefinder.war, which stores the People Finder portlet

Before you make the People Finder available to users, define the fields and views of the portlet using Configuration mode. Before you can open the portlet in Configuration mode, first add the portlet to a page of the portal.

    • LotusMyTeamWorkplaces.war, which stores the My Lotus Team Workplaces portlet
    • LotusWebConferencing.war, which stores the Lotus Web Conferencing portlet
    • Sametime Contact List portlet, stored in SametimeContactList.war.
    • Sametime Who Is Here portlet, stored in SametimeWhoIsHere.war.

The checklists in this section should help you plan your readiness for installing a collaborative portal (if you have not already done so), followed by the addition of the Collaboration Center components.

Collaborative portal installation

If you have already installed and configured a collaborative portal, skip this checklist.

To determine your readiness to install a collaborative portal, review this checklist:

  1. Review the comprehensive system requirements for a collaborative portal as a prerequisite to understanding the specific requirements for Collaboration Center capabilities.

Refer to the Information Center topic that identifies supported hardware and software. Pay particular attention to the requirements for IBM Lotus Domino Enterprise Server, IBM Lotus Web Conferencing (Sametime), IBM Lotus Team Workplaces (QuickPlace), and Lotus Collaborative Components.

  2. Plan your portal clustering and authentication strategies, as described in the Planning section for WebSphere Portal.
  3. Define your configuration for WebSphere Member Manager in the portal.
  4. Define your configurations for the servers hosting Lotus companion products that you intend to enable to work with the portal, namely, the following:

Refer to the Information Center topics that address LDAP configuration.

  5. Be prepared to enable single signon (SSO) on WebSphere Portal and the servers hosting Lotus companion products. Understand how SSO-enabled LDAP works in the portal environment.

Refer to the Information Center topics that address authentication with single signon and other planning and installation issues.

  6. Understand the collaboration features of the portal to make informed choices for installing and configuring Domino LDAP and the Lotus collaboration products that you want to work with WebSphere Portal.

Refer to the Information Center topics that address enabling collaboration features in your portal.

  7. Prepare for installing WebSphere Portal, giving special attention to the topics of the Information Center that address installing Lotus Collaborative Components.
  8. Check your readiness for Collaboration Center installation.
