Portal security
Overview
This section focuses on manual configuration of WebSphere Portal security. Manual configuration is recommended for advanced users, those who do not have access to IBM Web Administration for iSeries, or those with special security requirements.
Decide whether to use a custom user registry or an LDAP directory for authentication. You might want to use a Member Manager database-only configuration or a custom user registry if:
- There is no LDAP server.
- You need the user registry solely for the portal. In this case, you store all user data in the Member Manager database.
- An existing custom user registry exists that does not offer an LDAP interface. In this case, you use Member Manager and plug in an adapter to the self-made user registry.
