Supported hardware and software
Hardware requirements
Use the IBM Workload Estimator for iSeries for help with sizing all system configurations.
Systems that do not meet the recommended minimums can be used in environments that support a limited number of users and where longer server initialization times can be tolerated.
Minimum hardware requirements:
- iSeries Model 810 with processor feature 2465
- 2 GB of memory
- 1.5 GB of disk space for installation of WebSphere Portal and WAS V5.0 Enterprise Enablement
- 500 MB of disk space for each WAS instance configured for use with WebSphere Portal
These minimum requirements are based on a non-cluster environment running a single WAS instance. To run multiple WAS instances at the same time, additional system resources are required.
These requirements represent the recommended minimum requirements. Deployments which must support many users or require shorter response times might require additional resources.
Software requirements
Required software
The following software is required. Items noted with a CD number following their description are included with WebSphere Portal. All other required and optional software must be obtained separately.
- 5722SS1 OS/400 V5R2

SF99098 IBM HTTP Server group PTF, level 12 or later, and individual PTF SI10192 are required to use the IBM Web Administration for iSeries Portal Configuration Wizard. See the WebSphere Portal on iSeries product Web site for information on availability.
- SI08232 (product 5722-SS1) OSP-JVA_RUN NAWT Can't Connect to X11 Window Server
- Additional required PTFs provided on CD 1-13.
To determine if the correct PTF packages are installed, perform the following steps:
- Sign onto the iSeries server.
- Enter the Display PTF Status (DSPPTF) command on an OS/400 command line. The Display PTF Status screen is displayed. This screen lists the PTFs that have been applied to the server.
- Enter the Work with PTF Groups (WRKPTFGRP) command on an OS/400 command line. The Work with PTF Groups status screen is displayed. This screen lists the PTF group level and what group PTFs have been applied to the server.
See the IBM eServer iSeries Support Fixes for instructions on ordering PTFs.

- IBM Directory Server V5.1
- IBM Lotus Domino Directory
- Windows 2000 Active Directory 2000

Notes:
- IBM Directory Server for iSeries is provided natively on iSeries and is not bundled with or installed by WebSphere Portal.
- The use of an LDAP server is optional for WebSphere Portal.
- If you intend to use Lotus companion products, such as Lotus QuickPlace or Lotus Sametime, the directory provided with Lotus Domino Enterprise Server is recommended.
- Because you can install the LDAP server on a different machine from where WebSphere Portal is installed, you might be able to install the LDAP server on an operating system that is not required for the portal machine.
Support for LDAP Servers
WebSphere Portal support for LDAP servers falls into two categories:
- Fully tested and supported LDAP servers: The list of fully tested LDAP servers for each release of WebSphere Portal is documented in the Information Center, as well as in the "Supported Hardware and Software" document for each release. The current version of these documents for each release of WebSphere Portal can be found at http://www.ibm.com/websphere/portal/library. WebSphere Portal Support accepts problem reports for the appropriate WebSphere Portal releases using the tested directory servers. These problem reports receive high priority attention. Features tested with these directories include relatively simple search and retrieval functions for user and group objects. Functions outside this scope, such as as dynamic groups, referrals, or the Active Directory "Global Catalog" feature, are considered advanced features and have not been tested with WebSphere Portal. WebSphere Portal Support encourages customers to work with their LDAP provider for additional support on these advanced features.
- Untested and partially supported servers: In general, WebSphere Portal Service makes a best effort to support directory servers that have not been tested with WebSphere Portal. WebSphere Portal Support accepts problem reports for the appropriate WebSphere Portal releases using untested directory servers. If WebSphere Portal Support can recreate the reported problem using a tested LDAP server, we will attempt to fix the problem. If we are not able to recreate the problem on a tested LDAP server, we refer customers to the LDAP provider for assistance.
Submitting Requests for Additional LDAP Support
WebSphere Portal Development accepts customer requirements for LDAP support and functionality enhancements. Formal requirements are reviewed for consideration if submitted through the applicable IBM marketing or sales representative. Customer requirements must address one of the following areas:
- Formal LDAP support for additional LDAP products, platforms, or configurations not currently supported, as indicated above.
- Functional enhancements that either extend or exploit WebSphere Portal LDAP integration capabilities.
