Setting up the system for iSeries Access for Windows

 

To use iSeries™ Access for Windows^®, install and configure software on both the system and the PC.

iSeries Access for Windows must be installed on your system before you can install iSeries Access for Windows service packs on your system. After installation on your system, you can install iSeries Access for Windows from the System i™ platform to the client PCs.

Use this information to guide you through the steps necessary to install and configure iSeries Access for Windows on the System i platform.

• Prerequisites to install iSeries Access for Windows on i5/OS
  Before installing iSeries Access for Windows on i5/OS, there are required and optional programs that should be installed.

• Installing iSeries Access for Windows on the i5/OS
  When installing iSeries Access for Windows on i5/OS^®, you also need to install the required and optional programs on i5/OS.

• Obtaining and installing PTFs
  Obtain the latest PTFs and service packs for your system to avoid unnecessary service calls and create a more stable operating environment.

• Configuring TCP/IP on i5/OS platform
  TCP/IP must be configured appropriately, depending on how you will connect the PC to the System i platform.

• Configuring iSeries NetServer on i5/OS
  You can use iSeries NetServer™ to make the iSeries Access for Windows install image on i5/OS available to PC users.

• Removing iSeries Access for Windows from i5/OS
  To save disk space or to remove features that you no longer use, you can delete features from i5/OS.
