Operating systems: i5/OS, Linux, Windows

Install on Windows and Linux

IBM® WebSphere® Portal Express is the base component of the portal environment. This section includes information to guide you through installation on Windows and Linux.

WebSphere Portal Express is installed as a single component, complete with its own integrated DB2 database for storing information. This enables you to get WebSphere Portal Express up and running quickly.

If you are only interested in the basic functionality, you can immediately begin building and working with it. However, if you require additional functionality, such as LDAP-based authentication or collaboration functionality, you can add these components as you need them and expand your environment as quickly or as slowly as you choose.

Before you begin

  1. Review Planning for deployment to learn about using the existing software. Some features, such as collaboration services, require additional components to be installed. Refer to the other component descriptions in this topic for information on these components and instructions for installing them.

  2. Make necessary changes to your operating system. Refer to Preparing your operating system.
