Migrating

This section provides a detailed guide for migrating from previous versions of IBM® WebSphere® Portal Express to the current version of WebSphere Portal Express:

Perform the migration process in the order provided below. Some information, such as Migrating your customized resources and Migrating additional components, is optional based on how you customized your Portal and what components are installed.

  1. Planning migration
    Migration is the process of reconstructing the environment of your earlier IBM WebSphere Portal Express environment on a nearly identical Version 6.0 environment, including, but not limited to, applications and configuration settings.

  2. Preparing your previous environment for migration
    To ensure a proper migration, clean up your previous environment and apply the appropriate interim fixes to the previous WebSphere Portal Express environment.

  3. Migrating your customized resources
    Some migration steps are optional depending on what customized resources you had in your previous version of IBM WebSphere Portal Express. You only need to migrate those resources that are relevant to your environment.

  4. Preparing to run the migration tasks
    Before running the migration tasks to migrate IBM WebSphere Portal Express, complete the manual steps described here.

  5. Migrating WebSphere Portal Configurations
    When you are ready to migrate your WebSphere Portal configurations, you can use either a command line script or the migration wizard to export the data from the previous version and then import that data into the current version.

  6. Migrating the remaining access control configuration
    After successfully migrating your WebSphere Portal Express configuration, complete the required steps to migrate specific access control configurations that are not handled automatically by the migration process.
