Define shipping charges
Ship charges are the monetary amounts that you charge the customers to ship their orders.
Before you begin
- For more information about defining shipping charges and an example, see Define shipping data.
- Before defining shipping charges in the Shipping notebook in the WebSphere Commerce Accelerator, determine a strategy for all of the shipping charges create.
- Consider the following items:
- How many shipping codes did you create? How many jurisdictions, shipping modes, and fulfillment centers are involved?
- How many shipping charges per shipping code will you need? For example, if you created an oversized shipping code that applies to all oversized products, and you ship products to a Canadian, American, and international jurisdiction, we will have to create a charge for each jurisdiction involved. Also, if you offer three different shipping modes (Overnight, 3 day, and 5 day) we will also have to create charges based on both shipping mode and jurisdiction.
- Ensure that you have completed the following steps:
Procedure
- Open the WebSphere Commerce Accelerator.
- Click Store > Change Shipping. The Shipping overview page is displayed. If you do not see this menu, then the logon ID does not have the appropriate authority to perform this task. Contact the Site Administrator.
- Click Shipping codes. The Shipping Codes page is displayed.
In an extended site environment, shipping codes that have been defined for an asset store will extend to its stores. Shipping charges in these shipping codes will be read only and no additional shipping charges can be created for these shipping codes.
- Select the shipping code to which the shipping charge will apply.
- Click Charges. The Shipping Charges page is displayed.
- To define a new shipping charge, click New. The Define Charge Details page is displayed.
- In the Name field, type the name of the shipping charge.
- In the Description field, type a description of the new shipping charge.
- In the Time period section, select the time period when the charge is in effect.
- Select the Define fulfillment options check box. If you have defined more than one shipping mode, in order to specify which shipping mode to use, select the Define fulfillment options check box. If you have defined more than one shipping mode and you do not select this check box, this shipping charge will apply to all shipping modes.
- Click Next.
- If you selected Define fulfillment options, the Fulfillment Options page is displayed.
- To define a new fulfillment option, click New. The Create New Fulfillment Option page is displayed. Note: Define only the fulfillment options that will apply to this charge. That is, if you have two different shipping modes (for example, Overnight and Regular) that have different charges, define only one option now, and define the other when you create a new charge.
- From the Fulfillment center list, select the fulfillment center that will fulfill the orders.
- From the Jurisdiction list, select the jurisdiction that the selected fulfillment center will service.
- From the Shipping mode list, select the shipping mode that the selected fulfillment center and jurisdiction will service.
- In the Precedence field, type the order of precedence that this combination of fulfillment center, jurisdiction, and shipping mode takes over other combinations.
- Click OK to save the settings and return to the Fulfillment options page.
- To create another fulfillment option, repeat steps a to f.
- When you have finished creating fulfillment options, click Next. The Define Charge Type page is displayed.
- If you did not select Define fulfillment options, the Define Charge Type page is displayed.
- In the Define Charge Type page, select the type of charge:
- By Quantity: Creates charges based on the number of items shipped.
- By Weight: Creates charges based on the weight of the order items shipped.
- Fixed: Creates charges that are independent of quantity or weight.
- In the Define Charge Type page, select the type of charge: Click Next.
- If you selected By quantity, the Define charge by quantity is displayed.
- From the Currency list, select the currency for the charge, for example, USD (US dollars).
- In the Ranges table:
- To add a range, click Add. In the Start of range field, type the number that starts the range. For example, 0 if the range is from 0 to 5 items per order.
- To add another range repeat the step above. Once you enter a second range, the end number of the first range is automatically entered. For example, if the first range was 0 to 5, the second range would start with 6.
- In the Charge column, type the amount to be charged for that range. For example, the amount to ship an order that contains 0 to 5 items might be $5.00. This amount is in the currency you selected from the list.
To define amounts in second currency, select another new currency from the list.
- If you selected By weight, the Define Charge By Weight page is displayed.
- From the Unit of measure list, select the unit of measurement, for example, kilogram.
- From the Currency list, select the currency for the charge, for example, USD (US dollars).
- In the Ranges table:
- To add a range, type in the initial charge for the lowest range, for example, $5.00. Click Add.
- Type in the start of the next range, for example, 3 and click Add. Type in the charge, for example, $2.00.
- To add another range repeat the step above. Once you enter a second range, the end number of the first range is automatically entered. For example, if the first range was 0 to 5 kilograms, the second range would start with 6.
If you were to check out with something that weighs 4 kilograms, the charge would be 2 X 5 + 2 X 3= $16.00.
One should take care when selecting the weight, when the order has a combination of free shipping items, which are the downloadable products, and non-free shipping items. In such a scenario, you have to make sure that the weight of the downloadable products as well as their cost is set to 0.
- If you selected Fixed Charge, the Define Fixed Charge is displayed.
- From the Currency list, select the currency for the charge, for example, USD (US dollars).
- In the Amount field, type the amount for the fixed charge, for example, $6.00. This amount is in the currency you selected from the list.
To define amounts in second currency, select another new currency from the list.
- Click Finish to save the settings and return to the Shipping Charges page. The new shipping charge is displayed in the list.
