Migrate > Migrating WebSphere Commerce

Prepare to migrate WebSphere Commerce

The following sections describe specific steps complete while you still have the production system running. The sections also describes some considerations make prior to beginning the migration to WebSphere Commerce 7.0. If you do not complete the pre-migration actions, the database tier migration might not succeed. The migration program reports any problems in as much detail as requested at execution time. If such a situation occurs, let the migration program run to completion to report all the problems it finds in the first run. This provides opportunity to fix all problems before the program is run again.

  1. Database cleanup before migration
To improve the performance of the database tier migration, clean the current WebSphere Commerce database before migrating.

  2. Back up WebSphere Commerce v5.6.1 or 6.0
Before you proceed with the migration process, perform a complete system backup of the working WebSphere Commerce v5.6.1 or 6.0 system. This backup enables you to recover the previous system in the event that you encounter problems while migrating to WebSphere Commerce v7.0.

  3. Upgrade software
The first pre-migration step is to read the Prerequisites for installing WebSphere Commerce topic and upgrade the software to the levels required by WebSphere Commerce v7.0. For example, you may need to upgrade the operating system or Web browser.

  4. Prepare the WebSphere Commerce environment
Before beginning the first phase of migration, ensure that the WebSphere Commerce environment is ready for migration.

  5. DB2 Update the DB2 database configuration
Review this tuning information prior to migrating the DB2 database.
