Create an e-mail activity

In this step we will create an e-mail activity, and we will choose the e-mail template and customer segment created in previous steps.


Procedure

  1. In WebSphere Commerce Accelerator, from the Marketing menu, click Campaign Activities.

  2. From the Filter by activity type list, select E-mail Activities.

  3. Click New. Note: If you have not fulfilled the prerequisite of configuring e-mail accounts for inbound and outbound e-mail, an error will display. See Configure the e-mail activity accounts.

  4. In the Name field, enter TutorialEmailActivity.

  5. In the Description field, enter This is an e-mail activity for the snippet tutorial.

  6. From the Customer segment list, select TutorialCustomerSegment.

  7. In the E-mail template list, ensure EmailMessageDisplay is selected. This is the name of the e-mail template you inserted into the database.

  8. The Send date, time and reply-to address fields are filled in automatically. Note: The send date is specified within the e-mail activity in WebSphere Commerce Accelerator, and the send time is specified as part of the inbound and outbound e-mail address setup in Administration Console. In a production environment, the send time would be specified by a site administrator, likely at an off-peak time, to ensure optimal performance. Also in a production environment, the send date would be specified by a marketing manager to ensure the e-mail is sent in coordination with other marketing activities. Within this tutorial, the store developer performs the tasks of all the roles, and for testing purposes, you can adjust the time and date so the e-mail is sent soon after you create the e-mail activity.

  9. Click OK.

  10. You should receive an e-mail at the e-mail address that you registered in Create a customer who belongs to the customer segment, a few minutes after the e-mail activity is scheduled to run. The e-mail will contain the e-Marketing spot text: Selected apparel is 25% off.
