Customer segment management is fully supported in Management Center

You can now create, change and delete customer segments using the Marketing tool in Management Center. This means you no longer need to manage customer segments in WebSphere Commerce Accelerator even though you are using the segments as targets in Management Center activities and promotions. There are also a few new features for building customer segments.

New attribute for current age

If the site gathers customers' ages, you can take advantage of a new attribute called Current age according to supplied birth date. Using this attribute, you can build customer segments that target specific ages or any custom age range you specify, for example, "Customers aged 18 to 35." The advantage of this new attribute over the existing Age group attribute is that the customer's age remains current over time. This is because the server calculates the age from the birth date. As a result, the age-based customer segments stay up to date as the customers get older.

Behavior-based customer segments

Management Center offers a new way to build a customer segment, in addition to using the customer segment properties view attributes. You can now categorize customers into segments according to their behavior while shopping on the site using a new action element in Web or Dialog activities. This action element is called Add To Or Remove From Customer Segment. For example, you can build a segment containing "Customers who have browsed the Children's Clothing category." You can also use this action element to build a segment of customers who are entitled to a promotion based on something they do, such as placing an order over $200 during a certain time frame.
