Add defining attributes

Define attributes are properties of SKUs in an online store, such as color or size. Attribute values are the property of an attribute such as a specific color (blue or yellow) or size (medium).

About this task

To add a defining attribute to your product:

  1. Open the Catalogs tool.

  2. From the explorer tree, select a catalog.

  3. Find the product that you want to add a defining attribute to.

  4. Right-click the product; then click Open. The Product Properties view displays.

  5. Click the Defining Attributes tab.

  6. Click New

    . The Attribute Properties view displays.

  7. Expand the Attribute Properties section. Complete the following information:

    Option Description
    Display name The name of the attribute to be displayed in the attribute dictionary Main work area.
    Data Type The type of attribute such as text, whole number, or decimal number. When you select a data type, the attribute value section displays. This field is not editable.
    Sequence The order in which the object is displayed. Numbers are displayed in ascending order.
    Description The description of the attribute.

  8. Expand the Attribute Values section; then click New

    Complete the following information:

    Option Description
    Sequence The order in which the object is displayed. Numbers are displayed in ascending order.
    Value The value of the attribute. Attribute values are based on the data type such as text, number or decimal. You can add a new value
    Image Path The relative path where the image is located.
    Unit of measure Use this field to select the unit of measure used for the attribute. This field may or may not be displayed by default. To display the field as a column in a list view, right click on a column heading in the list view and click Configure Columns.
    This section displays once the Data Type is chosen in the Attribute Properties section.

  9. Click Save and Close, or click Close.
