Process: Develop kits and bundles
Flow
Objective
Create products in the master catalog comprised of other products or SKUs within the master catalog.
Description
This process creates products that contain other products (including parts or services) and SKUs from the master catalog.
There are three types:
- Promotional package
- A product comprised of a set of SKUs from the catalog for promotional purposes. The Product Manager may group any set of SKUs targeted for clearance, special introductions or other reasons to promote quick sales. A promotional package has two types:
- A static kit or prebuilt kit which is priced independent of its SKUs and cannot be broken down into its constituent SKUs either in the shopping cart or order.
- A bundle which is not priced as a whole but is the sum of each individual SKU. Its constituent SKUs are placed individually in the shopping cart or order (SKUs can be removed). A bundle is a convenient mechanism for stores to group a set of products together for their customers to purchase easily.
- Composite product
- A product comprised of a set of SKUs from the catalog treated as a prebuilt single entity. A composite product is priced independently from its constituent SKUs.
- Configurable product
- A product containing a set of SKUs which can be dynamically specified by the customer from the online catalog. The configurable product consists of a list of products or SKUs with a set of rules that govern how the individual SKUs can be combined to form the configured product. From this list, the customer is provided with a product configurator tool to select a subset of the SKUs based on the rules to create a product list which is added to the shopping cart or order. For example, select 1 CPU, 1 Graphics Card, 1 HD, either 1 CD or 1 DVD player, and 1 CDRW from the overall list of all computer components. The support for the product configurator is provided by third party vendors integrating through an external programming interface. A configurable product is also referred to as a dynamic kit.
The above products are optional within the master catalog and may be created manually from the WebSphere Commerce user interface or as part of the automated batch process.
