Process: Develop configurable product

Flow

Legend

A configurable product, also known as dynamic kit, is created by a Product Manager using a third party or ISV partner tool. A configurable product is created in the master catalog with its own images, descriptions, and attributes and linked to the external configurator from the display view for that product. The Product Manager then uses the ISV tool to load the master catalog (either explicitly exported or through direct database access) and build the rules needed to define the configurable product and calculate its price.

When the catalog is used online, a customer selecting a configurable product will be sent externally to the configurator which provides choices to select the components of the product. Once completed, a bill of materials containing the list of products and optionally the price is returned to the shopping cart.
