What's new in Communities?
This release contains features that are designed to make communities easier for you to use to share information and to collaborate with people both inside and outside the organization.
The following features are new or updated for Communities in Connections 5.0
- If the system administrator has enabled support for external users, community owners can now invite external users to join restricted communities or add external users to restricted communities. External users are people from outside the organization. External users can participate in the community they are invited to join but are restricted in what they can and cannot do in Connections. See the topic, What can external users do?
- In this release, when we delete a community, the community and all data associated with it is moved to a trash area. We can restore the community later, provided it is not purged from trash.
- Joining a public subcommunity and its parent in one click. Now when we join a public subcommunity, you automatically join the parent community.
- IBM Connections 5.0 introduces a new Gallery widget. The new widget is not a direct replacement of Media Gallery widget. Instead, it is intended to display content contained in the Files application, and Community folders.
We cannot upload files in the gallery; instead you add files to a folder and use the gallery to view these files. See Work with community galleries
When you install Connections 5.0 the media gallery is removed from the application palette, however, any existing media gallery content is retained.
- We can now conduct community surveys to gather information on important issues.
- Any community member can now share folders from the Files application with their community using the Files widget.
- Connections Content Manager (CCM) enhancements include improved anti-virus detection, and multi-file upload.
- Community owners can now pick a landing page for their communities. For example, if a community has an ideation blog, forums, recent updates and a Wiki, the community owner can pick one of these as the landing page.
- Connections 5.0 features a new Create Community Folders option to allow you to manage content within a community.
