Customizing portal sites

Using the Rational® Software Delivery Platform, you can edit both the graphic design and portlet layout within your portal.

Getting started with Portal Designer

When you open a portal project, the Portal Designer is the workbench interface that you see when you open a portal project. For more information, refer to Using Portal Designer.

Choosing a layout

You can change the layout of a portal page using the Portal Designer. The number of content areas within a page and the number of portlets within those content areas define the layout. Page content includes rows, columns, and portlets.

Once you publish your project to the Portal server, Portal administrators can use the administrator portlets to give site users permission to edit the page layout.

Working with themes and skins

The product installation includes predefined themes and skins. You can use these for your site, or use them to create new themes and skins. You can edit these themes ad skins to create a unique appearance for your site. There are also styles that are associated with each theme and skin. For more information, refer to Editing styles

Adding portlets to portal pages

The informative content of your portal pages is made up of portlets. You can use columns and rows to create containers for portlets.
