Create portal projects
The Rational Software Delivery Platform provides two wizards that can help you create a portal project:
- Import
- New Portal Project
For best results, import an existing Portal site configuration and files from your WebSphere Portal server into a Rational tools portal project. This ensures that you begin working with the most current Portal configuration.
If you are a designer who simply wants to create a portal site to customize its themes and skins, use the New Portal Project wizard.
When using the New Portal Project wizard to create a portal project, the wizard will generate:
- Portal version standard themes
- Portal version standard skins
- Nodes for "Home," "Task Page Definitions," "Login," "Site Map," and "Edit My Profile". (for WebSphere Portal)
- Portlet entities created for both "Login", "Search Site Map," and "Edit My Profile" pages.
- Pages with their caching attributes set to their defaults.
If you create a project with the New Portal Project wizard, you need to define all labels and pages in the portal project before deploying or exporting to the server. When you deploy or export your portal project, all labels and pages under the My Portal node that are not in the portal project will be deleted unless you export the portal project with the themes and skins only option. The best way to update an existing portal configuration in Rational tools is to use the Import wizard to create a portal project.
