Creating new portal projects

The New Portal Project wizard will guide you through the process of creating a portal project within Rational® Software Delivery Platform.

You can use this wizard to create a portal project for use on a WebSphere® Portal server. For details about specific components that the wizard creates for each version, refer to Creating portal projects.

To create a new portal project, do the following

  1. Select

    File | New | Project.

  2. In the New Project window, expand the

    Portal folder and select

    Portal Project. Click Next.

  3. In the Portal Project window, enter a project name and accept the default directory for your portal.

    Do not name your project wps or anything that resembles this string.

  4. From the menu, choose a Portal server version. This creates the project using the resources that were shipped with this Rational product at the specified version level.

  5. Select a target runtime. This is the server to which you will deploy this portal.

  6. By default, the wizard will associate your project with a project EAR. Click Next.

  7. Within the Select Theme page, click on a theme thumbnail to select it as the default theme for your portal; then click Next.

  8. Within the Select Skin page, click on a skin thumbnail to select it as the default skin for your theme; then click Finish.

Once you create your portal project, you can customize your portal site. This includes altering the layout, working with themes and skins, and adding portlets. For more information, refer to Customizing portal sites.
