Exporting a portal element

These instructions will guide you through exporting a portal topology fragment. This process creates a new portal project with a subset of the contents from the original portal project. Although this process can be used to create a full copy of a portal project to use in a test environment or on a server, you should only do so if you export all of the elements for your project to this copy of the project.

  1. In the

Project Explorer, expand your portal project node. Right-click on the Portal Configuration node and select

    Export.

  2. In the Export wizard, expand the Portal node and select Portal Topology Fragment. Click Next.

  3. In the Export a Topology Fragment page, specify a name for your new project

  4. By default, all items within the portal project are selected for export. Deselect anything that you do not want to export to this portal topology fragment.

Note: Choosing to export all items of the portal project to a new project is recommended if you want to run on a test environment or server without disturbing your original project. However, if you choose not to export certain items to your project, then it is not recommended that you deploy a minor subset to the original Portal server.

  5. After making your selections for export, click Finish.

Importing a portal element

These instructions will show you how to import a portal topology fragment to its original project in your workbench. It's important to note that the portal version of both projects must be equivalent.

  1. In the

Project Explorer, expand the node for the portal project you wish to import to. Right-click on the Portal Configuration node and select

    Import.

  2. In the Import wizard, expand the Portal node and select Portal Topology Fragment. Click Next.

  3. On the Import a Topology Fragment page, use the menu to select the project you wish to import. Also, select the fragments you wish to import from this source project. Click Next.

  4. Select a Destination project for your import. More than likely, the destination project will be the project that you chose to right-click on in Step 1.

  5. Click Finish.
