Starting the cluster and verifying the installation

After you create the deployment environment and complete the relevant configuration tasks, you can start all the servers in a cluster in one action. You can then verify the IBM BPM installation.

Procedure

  1. From a browser window, access the administrative console for the dmgr by typing the web address of the server that you want to view. Use the following format:

    http:// server_name. domain_name: port_number/ibm/console

where server_name is the name of the server, domain_name is the domain name, and port_number is the administrative console port number.

  2. Log on to the administrative console.
  3. Verify that you can see IBM BPM on the Welcome page.

You can click IBM BPM for more information.

  4. Click Servers > Clusters > WebSphere application server clusters.

  5. Select the cluster that you want to start.

  6. Click Start.
  7. Navigate around the administrative console to check that the enterprise applications and messaging engines are started.

If any application or process has failed to start, you can look in the Servant and Adjunct job logs for "SEVERE" or "WARNING" messages that provide details about the failure.

Tip: In the default server log output, only the Sourceid and ExtendedMessage Trace lines are displayed. To display more detailed information about "SEVERE" or "WARNING" messages in the log, complete the following steps:

    1. In the administrative console, click Environment > WebSphere variables.

    2. Create a cell-scoped variable named private_bbor_condense_java_trace with a value of 0.
    3. Restart all servers.

If you view the log again, you should see additional lines for ThreadId, FunctionName, and Category.

What to do next

If all the messaging engines initialized correctly, and you do not see any other errors that are related to opening JDBC connections, you can continue to customize your configuration of IBM BPM.

After the cluster has started, verify that the servers are set up correctly by running a series of tests and deploying samples as detailed in the following table.

Server verification tests
Application and description Action
Process Admin Console

Use the Process Admin Console to manage the Process Servers in your runtime environments, and to manage the Process Center server.

Log on to the Process Admin Console by using the default account for IBM BPM administrators. For information about accessing the Process Admin Console, see Access the Process Admin Console.

After you log on to the Process Admin Console:

  1. Add the WebSphere administrator RACF ID to the TW_Administrator group.

  2. Optional: Add the relevant RACF users to the TW_AUTHOR group.
Performance Admin Console

Use the Performance Admin Console tools to manage the Performance Data Warehouse queues in your environment, manage data transfer errors, and monitor overall performance.

Verify that you can access the Performance Admin Console as described in Manage Business Performance Data Warehouses.
Process Portal and Business Space

Use Process Portal to interact with processes from a web browser. To ensure that Process Portal works properly in the IBM BPM runtime environment, Business Space is required.

Configure Process Portal and configure the Business Space component for Process Portal, as described in Configure Process Portal. Then, verify that the applications used by Process Portal are all accessible and that Process Portal is working, as described in Verifying Process Portal.

If you encounter a Topic not found error in the Process Portal window, see Resolving "Topic not found" errors in Process Portal for information about resolving this error.

Business Process Choreographer

Use Business Process Choreographer if you require support for both Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) processes and human tasks in a WebSphere Application Server environment.

Configure Business Process Choreographer before you deploy any enterprise applications that contain BPEL processes or human tasks, as described in Configure Business Process Choreographer. Then, verify that the basic functions work in your Business Process Choreographer configuration by running the Business Process Choreographer installation verification application, as described in Verifying that Business Process Choreographer works.

If you configured Business Process Choreographer Explorer as an optional part, verify that you can successfully start Business Process Choreographer Explorer, as described in Starting Business Process Choreographer Explorer.

Business process rules manager

Use the business process rules manager as a tool to browse and manage business rule values.

Verify that you can access the business process rules manager from a web browser, as described in Access the business process rules manager.
Hiring Sample process application

Use the samples that are provided with the product to further verify the installation and also to use as tutorials.

Run the Hiring Sample process application and tutorial in Process Designer, as described in Samples and tutorials.

Additionally deploy the samples to a Process Server and then run them, as described in Installing process application snapshots.
