Create a response file for the zpmt.sh script
The customization response file that provides input to the zpmt.sh script must contain the relevant customization parameters for the profile that you want to configure. You can generate this file in several ways.
- Install the WebSphere Application Server product code and the IBM BPM product code in the z/OS system.
- Determine your topology and collate the customization information for your stand-alone or ND configuration.
- Install the WebSphere Customization Toolbox.
- Download the IBM BPM for z/OS extension to the WebSphere Customization Toolbox workstation. Optionally download the sample customization definition response files.
- Install the extension into the WebSphere Customization Toolbox.
Procedure
Use one of the following methods to create a response file that you can use with the zpmt.sh script:
- Use the IBM BPM for z/OS configuration planning spreadsheet to generate a customization response file for the stacked installation:
- Download the spreadsheet from the following article in the IBM Support Portal:
Techdoc WP102075.
- From a Windows workstation, complete the spreadsheet by specifying values for the WebSphere Application Server and IBM BPM variables.
Tip: The data needed for completing the spreadsheet can span multiple roles, such as system programmer, product administrator, and database administrator. Therefore, it is advisable to review the spreadsheet in detail and then work with the relevant personnel to establish naming conventions and to complete the entries.
- Click the Save button on the relevant worksheet to run the macro to generate the response file.
- Use FTP to transfer the response file to the UNIX System Services file system, to make the file available to the zpmt.sh script.
- Use the z/OS Profile Management Tool (zPMT) to generate customization response files for the installation. From a Windows or Linux workstation, you can generate these response files in a specified customization location that is on a local or shared drive.
- Use the Create action to complete the WebSphere Application Server and IBM BPM fields in the zPMT windows.
You can populate the zPMT windows with predefined configuration values by importing one of the sample customization response files or another existing response file. You can then overwrite any of the predefined values as you progress through the windows.
- Use FTP to transfer the resulting response file from its customization location to the UNIX System Services file system, to make the file available to the zpmt.sh script.
After creating a customization definition in zPMT, it is also possible to use the Process action to generate and upload a set of JCL jobs, an augmentation response file, and other data files to the target z/OS system.
- Manually edit copies of the supplied sample response files or other existing response files.
Although you can manually edit response files, this practice is deemed suitable only for advanced users who have previously generated response files either from the spreadsheet or zPMT, and who are familiar with the parameters required for creating IBM BPM for z/OS profiles. To minimize the introduction of errors, use a response file that was generated from the spreadsheet or zPMT, and make few manual changes. Typically restrict your changes to minor updates to the variable values, or to global changes to values such as the two-character cell qualifier.
For reference information about the response file variables, see Variables for customizing profiles using the zpmt.sh script.
What to do next
You can now run the zpmt.sh script from the z/OS file system to generate JCL jobs and customization files for the required profile.
