Federation considerations for Process Portal spaces
You can use Process Portal spaces to provide a single, federated user experience for participating in processes and tasks from multiple IBM BPM systems, or across multiple process servers. Federation with IBM Case Manager solutions is also supported.
The spaces include widgets that participants can use to work with processes and tasks developed with IBM Process Designer (BPDs and human services) and IBM Integration Designer (BPEL processes and human tasks). The federated user experience provides the following capabilities:
- View federated lists. You can view, filter, and sort tasks or processes in a single list, regardless of the process server where they are stored. You can also view and sort task and process definitions in a single list.
- Perform bulk actions. You can select one or more items in lists of processes, tasks, or task definitions and perform various actions on the selected items. An action is allowed only if it is supported by all of the selected items. If the list includes IBM Case Manager work items, bulk actions are not supported.
- Work with multiple tasks and processes in parallel. You can work with multiple tasks and processes in a tabbed pane, regardless of the system or process server where they are stored.
Attention: IBM Case Manager work items are opened in a Solution Space in a new browser window. Here you can work on only one work item at a time.
- Interact with a task or process. When you interact with an individual task or process, the content that is shown and the actions that are available depend on the capabilities of the process server where the resource runs.
By default, Process Portal spaces are enabled for federation.
- Widget support for BPDs, BPEL processes, human tasks, and work items
IBM BPM provides a set of widgets for working with and managing processes and tasks in Process Portal spaces. These widgets can also be used to work with IBM Case Manager work items.
- Considerations when using the Human Tasks Management widgets in federated environments
If you are using the Human Task Management widgets in a federated environment, you should be aware of the limitations in some of the widget functionality.
- Naming considerations for federating lists of processes and tasks in the Human Tasks Management widgets
Federated lists combine the query results from all the configured systems in a domain. Queries in federated domains originate from saved searches and query tables in the configured systems. To federate query results, you must follow certain conventions when you create saved searches and query tables.- Naming considerations for federating lists of IBM BPM tasks and IBM Case Manager work items
The integrated inbox widget in a Process Portal space combines the query results from all the configured IBM BPM and IBM Case Manager systems in a domain. Queries for the items in the inbox come from saved searches, query tables, and in-baskets queries in the configured systems. To federate query results, you must follow certain conventions when you create the corresponding queries.
