Migrating
WebSphere Portal
Migrating is the process of collecting configuration information
from a prior release and merging it into a configuration for a new release.
Important: Perform the migration process in the order provided.
Some information, such as migrating your customized resources or additional
components, is optional based on how you customized your portal and what components
are installed.
- Planning for migration
Each migration is unique, depending on the earlier version of IBM® WebSphere® Portal Express that you are migrating from. Successful migration requires careful planning and execution, understanding the hardware and software requirements, and being aware of the tools, techniques, and issues that are involved.
- Preparing your previous environment for migration
To ensure a proper migration, clean up your previous environment and apply the appropriate interim fixes to the previous WebSphere Portal Express environment. Apply the fixes in the order listed to ensure a successful migration process.
- Migrating your customized resources
Some migration steps are optional depending on what customized resources you had in your previous version of IBM WebSphere Portal Express. You only need to migrate those resources that are relevant to your environment.
- Preparing to run the migration tasks
Preparing to run the migration tasks includes tasks such as updating user roles, changing the HTTP server timeout, collecting required files, performance tuning for export and import operations, and stopping and restarting servers.
- Migrating configurations
Migrating IBM WebSphere Portal Express is a combination of exporting content from the earlier version, then importing that content to the current version. Use the migration scripts to accomplish these tasks.
- Migrating the access control configuration
To complete access control migration, perform manual steps to migrate permissions on specific users and groups, and credential vault data. Also, when migrating from version 5.0.2.2 or 5.0.2.3, you need to migrate permissions of administrative resources.
- Migrating additional components
When you want to migrate artifacts individually in a development environment, choose from the following topics, depending on your migration scenario.
- Migrating themes
When migrating themes that were developed in an earlier version, you need to be aware of general guidelines, differences, and known issues.
- Verifying the migration tasks
Prior to verifying the migration tasks, make sure that all manual migration steps are completed. Then use the steps described here to verify the success of the migration tasks.
