Set up awareness and chat for Domino Web Access

You integrate Lotus Sametime in the Domino Web Access portlet so that users can send and receive instant messages, maintain an instant contacts list, and make the names of people in mail messages, views and folders online-aware.

In Domino Web Access, the IBM Lotus Sametime^® integration features rely on the ability of the browser to communicate directly with the Lotus Sametime server. This means that the fully-qualified Internet host name of the Lotus Sametime server must be resolvable from the browser (for example, the fully qualified Internet host name for a Lotus Domino server named Sametime/Acme might be sametime.acme.com). Therefore, either DNS must be able to resolve this address, or it must be resolved to the proper IP address by some other mechanism (such as by editing the local operating system's hosts file).

Checklist of tasks:

1. Specifying the mail template for Domino Web Access
   On the IBM Lotus Domino messaging/application server, specify the fully qualified server name in the IBM Lotus Domino Directory Server document, and specify the database design template that is compatible with Domino Web Access.
2. Verifying that Sametime works with Domino Web Access
   Log in to the Sametime server to verify that Sametime is working properly, and then into the Domino Web Access portlet to enable the instant messaging feature.
