You can use an IP address rather than a host name when you record a test. When recording, enter the IP address of the Web site instead of the host name.
Record with IP addresses
The IP address must be resolvable to a host name, such as via a reverse DNS lookup. You can resolve IP addresses to a host name by configuring the hosts file.
- For Windows XP and Windows 2000
C:/windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts
- For *nix...
/etc/hosts
If an address cannot be resolved, test will show a slower-than-expected connection time. This time may be delayed by as much as 8 seconds, depending on the network configuration of the computer, and will skew test results.
