Adding categories to a unit test UDDI registry

You can configure a new unit test UDDI registry, or reconfigure an existing one, to add categories for use by publishers to and browsers of the registry.

If you want to add a list of values for the category, you should define a category value file first.

  1. Click File > New > Other, and then select Web Services > Unit Test UDDI and click Next to open the Unit Test UDDI wizard.

  2. If you want to reconfigure the existing registry on this machine, click Update the previously deployed UDDI registry. Otherwise select the type of registry you want to configure.

  3. Click Next to turn to the configuration page.

  4. To the right of the User Defined Categories table, click Add to add a category:

    1. Provide a name for the category. This will appear in the categories list when a user publishes to the registry.

    2. Optional: Point to the category value file that provides a tree of valid values for the category.

    3. Select Checked if you want to restrict category values to the existing set. Otherwise users will be able to define new values.

    4. Click OK. The category is added to the table, with a unique key taken from the category value file, or based on the display name if no file was specified. You cannot add two categories with the same name or key to the same registry.

  5. Click Finish. The registry is deployed, or modified if it is already deployed, with the categories you defined.

  6. In the Web Services Explorer, add the registry to Favorites to save the mapping from the category to its value file.

You now have a set of categories defined that will be available for selection when users publish to or search the registry. You can make the category value file available to users of the registry so they can import the categories appropriately the next time they open the registry.
