Applying an effect to an image object

You can apply three kinds of effects to image objects: the effects available in the Effect Palette, shadow effects, and button effects.

The Effect Palette enables you to apply a variety of effects to your image object, such as color tone and movement. A shadow effect applies a shadow to your image object, while a button effect makes the image object looks concave or convex. If you attempt to apply an effect to a regular object, you will see a message that asks you whether you want to convert the selected object into an image object. To convert it, click Yes.

To apply an effect to an image object:

  1. To apply an effect to an image object with the Effect Palette:

    1. Select the object to which you want to apply an effect.

    2. Select Tools > Effect.

    3. From the Effect Palette dialog, click Refresh. The image that you selected appears as preview thumbnails of each effect.

    4. Select the effects you want from the thumbnails in the Effect, Photo, Color Tone, and Color Temperature tabs. You may apply one effect from each tab. Click Apply to preview the effect on the Canvas and Object stack.

    5. When you are finished adding the effects to your image object, click Close.

  2. To apply a shadow effect to your image object:

    1. Select the image object to which you want to apply the shadow effect.

Picture of the Obtain Color on Screen icon icon and drag your mouse pointer over an image on the screen. The preview shadow in the Shadow Effect dialog will change to the image's color.

    5. Specify the degree of transparency and blurring in your shadow. Use the sliders to control the intensity.

    6. Click Preview to preview the shadow on the Canvas and Object stack.

    7. When you are finished applying the shadow effect, click OK.

  3. To apply a button effect to your image object:

    1. Select the image object to which you want to apply the button effect.

    2. Select Tools > Button Effect.

    3. Adjust both the Concave or convex slider and the Darkness of shadow slider. To preview the object on the canvas, click Preview.
