Configuring test and debug environments for portlets

You must configure your environment to test, debug or profile your portlet projects. This can involve defining and configuring servers, defining Web browsers or device emulators, and associating projects with servers.

Servers can be local (within the workbench) or remote (external to the workbench). To use a local server, install the WebSphere Portal V5.0 test environment from the Rational Application Developer launchpad.

• First, you need to define a server.

• If you are using a remote server, you may need to configure it,

• You can associate a project with a particular server.

• If you are using JSP files, you may need to configure your server for optimal testing.

• You can change the Web browser you are using and, if needed, define a device emulator.

• If you are using a local test server, you may need to enable transcoding.

• If you are using a local test server, you may need to add project references to your server.

• If you are using RAD on a Linux system, or in a network with a firewall, you need to be aware of some configuration issues.
