What to expect after you complete migration

During the migration process, the portal applications, portlets, and databases are updated to the IBM WebSphere Portal 8.5 versions. However, not all of the new WebSphere Portal v8.5 functionality and features are enabled by default. The following sections provide information on how various components are handled during migration, and what we can expect after the migration is complete.

  • Themes
During the migration process, the theme is moved over to the target environment unmodified. The pages in the target environment still reference the same theme that was used in the source environment.

  • Site toolbar
During migration, the IBM WebSphere Portal 8.5 theme is deployed. The 8.5 theme includes the site toolbar, but the toolbar is enabled only for the default virtual portal. For all other virtual portals, install the site toolbar separately.

  • Virtual portals
During the migration process, the existing virtual portals are moved over to the target environment unmodified.

  • WebSphere Portal and Web Content Manager administration
In WebSphere Portal 8.5, the update of the portal, and Web Content Manager administration themes has been automated. In previous versions of WebSphere Portal, the WebSphere Portal and Web Content Manager administration themes were not updated during migration. For more information about administering the Portal server, see the Administering section of the product documentation.
