Plan for migration

Each migration is unique. Successful migration requires careful planning to understand the scope of the effort that is required and being aware of the issues that are involved. Additional tasks may be needed depending on how you customized the earlier portal environment and which components you used.

Prior to migrating, take time to inventory server, assess the existing portal installation, and establish a performance baseline. Review system requirements for the new version of WebSphere Portal and determine whether you need to upgrade any parts of infrastructure such as database, LDAP server, or Web server, or collaborative software such as IBM Lotus Domino®, IBM Lotus Sametime®, or IBM Lotus Quickr®.

Because migration may require additional tasks that affect areas such as database, Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), IBM WAS, IBM Web Content Manager, and so on, the administrator who manages migration should coordinate with the individuals who are responsible for these areas, to let them know when additional tasks are required.

Use the migration instructions in this information center

Migration instructions in this information center are organized according to the version from which you can migrate:

The tools and steps that you use to migrate a v6.0.1.x portal are largely unchanged from previous releases. The process for migrating a V6.1.x portal takes advantage of enhanced tools to provide an improved migration experience with reduced downtime required. Use the planning checklist at the beginning of the appropriate section to help plan migration and identify issues you may need to consider.

After you complete migration, see the section on deploying new functionality for additional information. While these tasks are not part of the migration process, they are included here as a convenience for users who want to enable newer functionality in their migrated portal.

Re: Planning for migration: wp7

Am I save in assuming you mean Web Application Integrator when you refer to WebSphere Portal Application Integrator and that Web Application Integrator will not be supported from Portal 7.0 on?

see - http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/websphere/library/techarticles/0901_debinder/0901_debinder.html for what I mean by Web Application Integrator.

Thanks

Tom
