Portal, V6.1
User access to templates and applications
First, assign user access to application templates and template categories using the Resource Permissions portlet. Then create and manage roles for application users using the Roles portlet. Finally, assign application users to membership roles using the Members portlet.
Access to work with application templates and composite applications is determined by the role types that set permissions for portal resources: Administrator, Security Administrator, Delegator, Manager, Editor, Privileged User, and User. You assign access rights for application template categories and application templates by adding individuals and user groups to the role types using the Resource Permissions portlet. Access to composite applications is derived from portal access control settings and refined by the application membership roles that you create using the Roles portlet.
- From the menu of an application template, select Assign Template Permissions to assign access for the application template using the Resources Permissions portlet.
Role types that you select and edit in Resource Permissions determine the access that users have to work with application templates and application template categories.
- From the menu of an application template, select Manage Roles to use the Roles portlet to create and edit the application membership roles defined by the template.
- From the menu of an application page, select Manage Application Roles to use the Roles portlet to create and edit the application membership roles in the instance of the composite application.
Membership roles are defined in the application template and propagated to instances of the composite application created from the template. The default membership roles for composite applications are Administrators and Users. These predefined roles are the basis for all new roles that you create for application members.
- From the menu of an application page, select Assign Application Members to use the Members portlet to add users to the application and assign them to membership roles. If your own membership role permits you to manage the membership of the application, you can reassign member roles and remove members from the application.
Members of an application are assigned roles that provide permission to work with the application, its pages, its membership, and the components that are deployed on each page of the application.
- Template access
Use the Resource Permissions portlet to assign portal access roles to Application Templates and Application Template Categories.- Application access
