Document Manager access roles

Description of access roles.

The following table describes the access roles that are relevant to Document Manager:

Role in WebSphere Portal Express Access in Document Manager
User Read-only access to Document Manager resources. A person with the User role can see the resource, but cannot modify content or contribute new content of their own.
Editor A person with the Editor role can view and add new documents, folders, and views to the current resource. Editors can also modify the properties and content of existing documents and files.

Persons with the Editor role cannot move files.

Manager A person with the Manager role has all the privileges of the Editor role, and permission to perform the following tasks:

  • Convert documents to another format

  • Delete folders and documents that are children of the current resource

  • Move files

Administrator A person who has the Administrator role may perform all tasks.

The Privileged User, Delegator, and Security Administrator roles have no special meaning for Document Manager resources.

The creator of a resource has special access rights. For example, if a person with the Editor role creates a document, that person has view, edit, delete, grant access, and delegate permissions rights for that document, even though the creator has only the Editor role.

Users with the Editor role need to have User access to the Resource Permission Portlet and the Resource Permission page for the assign access item to be visible.
