Copying a document library
Copy a document library.
Copy an existing document library to create a new library with the same settings and contents.
- Navigate to the Document Libraries portlet.
- Click the Copy document library icon that displays beside the document library that you want to copy.
- Type a name for the new document library. The new document library name is Copy of <OriginalDocumentLibrary> by default.
- Select one of these options:
- Copy document library settings only
- Copy document library settings and folders
- Copy document library settings, folders, and documents
- Click Copy.
When using the Copy document library settings, folders, and documents option, be aware that:
- This option can take some time to complete if the selected library contains a large number of documents.
- Document drafts are not copied to the new document library.
- The existing library ID is not copied. A new ID assigned when the new, copied library is created.
- Users are not allowed to write to the library while the copy is processing.
The new document library is created. The following settings are copied to the new library:
- document library description
- workflow setting (enabled or disabled)
- selected approvers
- document language
- prohibit library from being deleted
- versioning setting (enabled or disabled)
- document locking setting (enabled or disabled)
The contents that can be copied to the new library include all folders and documents of the existing document library. If documents have locks or version information, the document lock and version information is not copied, although the document itself is copied.
