Run the GUI installation tool from a workstation
When you run the interactive GUI installation tool, you specify installation options during the installation process. To install WebSphere Application Server with the GUI installation program, perform these steps:
- If TCP/IP is not started or if you don't know if TCP/IP is started, enter the Start TCP/IP (STRTCP) command on the CL command line.
- Verify that the host server jobs have been started on your iSeries server. The host server jobs allow the installation code to run on iSeries.
Enter this command on the CL command line:
STRHOSTSVR SERVER(*ALL)
- Place the WebSphere Application Server 6.0 iSeries CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive on the workstation.
Note: Do not use the IBM WebSphere Application Server Version 6.0 Windows CD-ROM or any other CD-ROM (which was shipped with your WebSphere Application Server Version 6.0 for OS/400 package) for this set of steps.
The InstallShield program should automatically start. If it does not, open Windows Explorer and select your CD-ROM drive. Double-click the install.exe file in the WAS directory to start the InstallShield program.
- Enter the name of the iSeries server where you are installing WebSphere Application Server. You also must enter a valid user ID and password. for the server. Note that your profile must have *ALLOBJ and *SECADM special authorities. Click OK.
- On the Welcome panel, click Next.
- On the next panel, if you accept the terms of the license agreement, select I accept the terms in the license agreement and click Next. If you do not accept the terms of the license agreement, you cannot continue with the installation.
- The System prerequisites check verifies that your server meets the minimum requirements to install the product. If the prerequisites are met, click Next. If the prerequisites are not met, exit the Installation Wizard and make the required changes.
- The next panel displays the product installation root. You cannot change this value. Click Next.
- On the next panel, select the components to install for WebSphere Application Server. For information about the installable components, see Select the components to install. Click Next.
Note: If a previous installation of WebSphere Application Server Version 6.0 is found, the installation wizard does not overwrite features that are already installed on your iSeries server.
- The components that you specified are displayed. Verify that they are correct. If they are not, click Back to change your installation options. If they are correct, click Next.
- The InstallShield program displays messages that indicate the status of the installation and a status bar to show the progress of the installation.
- After the installation runs, the Configuration Manager progress panel is displayed. The configuration manager performs post-installation tasks and creates the default profile.
- After the installation process is complete, the summary panel displays the results of the installation process and links to additional information about the product. Click Finish to close the InstallShield program.
- For security purposes, if the host servers were not running prior to installation, it is recommended that you run the End Host Server (ENDHOSTSVR) command after the installation is complete.
